What ammo shipping actually costs
That $0.18/rd 9mm ad becomes $0.23/rd once shipping hits your total. Here's how the fee structures work, and which retailers are most transparent about it.
Some retailers label their shipping surcharge as a "hazmat fee." This is a misnomer. Factory-loaded ammunition ships as DOT Class 1.4S (Cartridges, Small Arms), a classification that does NOT trigger the $20–$27.50 carrier dangerous-goods surcharge. That fee applies to primers and smokeless powder, not loaded rounds.
What you're actually paying is a flat-rate ground shipping fee. Some retailers call it hazmat. It isn't. The numbers are the same either way, but the label matters if you're trying to understand the fee structure.
True cost per round = (box price + shipping) ÷ total rounds
($95 + $14.99) ÷ 500 = $0.22/rd true cost
vs. advertised $95 ÷ 500 = $0.19/rd

TSUSA Prime ($20/year) gives free shipping on all orders. Without it, shipping is calculated at checkout based on weight and distance. Prime pays for itself on your first case purchase.

Every listing shows an estimated true cost (product price + shipping ÷ round count). We encode each retailer's shipping policy directly: flat rates, free-shipping thresholds, all of it.
